Diamond jewelry,
decoded.

A jewelry listing can compress dozens of details into a few words. BBB breaks those details back apart so buyers know what questions to ask.

TCW

Total carat weight

Total carat weight usually refers to the combined weight of diamonds in the piece, not the weight of each individual stone.

QTY

Stone count & size

Ask how many stones are present and, where relevant, the approximate individual stone sizes. The same total weight can be distributed very differently.

4Cs

Quality range

Understand whether color and clarity are stated as ranges, averages or grades for a specific center stone. Small melee stones are commonly described differently from individually graded major stones.

MET

Metal

Confirm metal type, karat/fineness and approximate item weight. Diamond weight and total jewelry weight are different measurements.

DOCUMENTATION

Know what the paperwork covers.

An independent grading report for a major diamond is different from a store appraisal for a finished jewelry piece. Read the document and understand exactly what item or stone it describes.
